 The success of the UNIDO/Etrace programme in implementing traceability concepts and schemes in Egypt has encouraged Etrace to expand its activities and share its experience and expertise with other developing countries and countries in transition in link with UNIDO south-south cooperation frame work.

On-site technical assistance

UNIDO/Etrace also conducts technical missions to other countries in order to provide support in traceability, supply chain management and related matters. The main objectives of these missions are:
•  Capacity Building through technical training programmes and workshops;
•  The conceptualization of projects focused on traceability implementation;
•  Field assessments and diagnostic studies; and
•  Coaching and follow up on the implementation process.

Study tours to Egypt for training and hands-on experience

Delegates from other developing countries and countries in transition can be exposed to Egyptian experience in the design, the establishment and operation of traceability systems at national, farm and food processor levels, as well as compliance with international quality and safety standards. The study tours, with an average duration of one week, are customized programmes with a blend of theoretical and practical components, including:
•  Introductory workshops on traceability implementation for fresh produce and processed food;
•  Introduction to IT-based traceability systems and meetings with software and hardware providers of traceability systems;
•  Field visits to Agro-industrial operators with advanced systems in place;
•  Meetings with producer groups and associations implementing traceability as well as food quality and safety standards;
•  Visits to packing-houses, collection hubs and export terminals;
•  Visits to public stakeholders governing traceability implementation; and
•  Visits to laboratories and other service providers.

South-South cooperation partners

Etrace’s South Partners who have already benefited and/or are currently benefiting from Etrace’s support: Algeria, China, Ghana, Jordan, Lebanon, Moldova, Morocco, Tanzania, and Tunisia.
Furthermore, Etrace expands its technical support through cooperation with different institutions such as the UNIDO/MACLE Project in Lebanon and the Union of Maghrebian Farmers (UMAGRI) in Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Mauritania.
South-South Cooperation is also envisaged with: Benin, Ecuador, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Vietnam.
ETRACE’s South-South Cooperation activities are funded by the Italian development Cooperation.
